painting the Town

a blackpool colour story

Painting the Town is more than a paint range. We are on a place-making mission…

This unique palette of colours tells us ten individual stories of people and places in Blackpool. It is a bespoke paint range for a town that is held in the nation’s consciousness for its ability to create joy and lift spirits. By maintaining and painting our properties and civic buildings using this paint range, we continue to care for Blackpool and the positive purpose it serves in peoples lives.

Painting the Town is more than a paint range, it is a place-making campaign bringing people together – residents, visitors and organisations and businesses – through the medium of colour.

Painting the Town is a shared desire for renewal in Blackpool – to bring life back to High Streets, to make exits and entrances better and brighter. By painting together, improving the built environment alongside one another, we can begin to reshape perceptions of the town in the longer term and build a Blackpool that attracts new investment, new employees and new visitors one paint pot at a time.

Painting the Town is a completely new way to experience and support Britain’s most iconic seaside town from wherever you live and work in the UK. Every tin carries a donation to improve the arts and culture offer in the town for residents and visitors alike.

Inspired from a commission by local artist Laura Shevaun Green, LeftCoast and Johnstone’s paint are proud to bring this Blackpool colour story to life. This paint range is bold, colourful and resilient just like the town and its people.

Lets paint

The Core Palette

Our range of 35 premium paint colours reflect the unforgettable people and places of Blackpool. Our ten core colours, inspired by real stories, are complemented by a capsule collection of 25 harmonising colours influenced by the light and landscape of Blackpool’s ever-changing coastline.

North Pier

A charming, delicate colour inspired by memories of walks along North Pier eating clouds of frothy candyfloss.

Lawson Green

An intense, verdant hue taken from one of Blackpool’s best loved green spaces, Lawson’s Field.

Salisbury Yellow

This powerful, liveable yellow is inspired by the cascading autumn leaves of Salisbury Woodland, a quiet haven close to Blackpool Zoo.

Sea Snail

A silty brown colour captured from shells washed up by high tide onto Blackpool’s sandy dunes.

Bandstand

This bright white is taken from the bandstand in Stanley Park, Blackpool’s 390 acre Grade II Listed public park

Ghost Train

This purple is bright, adventurous and vital. It takes its characterful name from the colour of the rails of the Ghost Train at Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Arcade

Arcade is a strong charismatic blue colour inspired by the amusement arcades of Blackpool’s famous seaside heritage.

Tangerine Coast

A brilliant orange colour suggestive of the incredible early morning skies that bloom and blaze over Blackpool’s Rock Gardens

BALLROOM

A deep, rich red evocative of the sensationally stylish Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

Herring Gull

A soft, gentle grey taken from the wind beaten feathers of swooping gulls on Blackpool promenade.
